2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup standings: Jimmie Johnson extends lead

Jimmie Johnson won the Party in the Poconos 400 to extend his lead atop the NASCAR Sprint Cup standings. He now sits on 521 points, with a sizable lead over second place Carl Edwards and third place Clint Bowyer.

Johnson dominated at Pocono Raceway, winning by 1.208 seconds and leading 128 of 160 laps. It marked his third win of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season, third at the Tricky Triangle and 63rd of his career.

There are plenty of races for other drivers to catch up to Johnson, but it seems highly unlikely that it happens. He has a 51-point lead after 14 races and that is despite a penalty last week taking away a near-certain victory from him.

Edwards is going to have to make up those 51 points by increasing his one-win total on the season, while third place Bowyer doesn’t have any wins. Dale Earnhard Jr. is in fourth place, 82 points behind Johnson, while Kevin Harvick is five points behind Earnhardt Jr.
