NASCAR Indianapolis 2013: Start time, TV schedule for Brickyard 400

Jimmie Johnson is having the best season of anybody on the Sprint Cup, has as many wins at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway than any other racer, and is only one racer removed from the pole at the Brickyard 400. Can he pull out his fifth win in Indy?

Tom Pennington

Jimmie Johnson’s right up front for the Brickyard 400 as he goes for his record-setting fifth win at one of the most famous tracks in racing, sitting in the No. 2 spot at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

It’s NASCAR’s turn in Indianapolis, and Johnson typically stars there. He’s the top racer on the Sprint Cup this year, with four wins on the season, and he’s at a track where he’s excelled. He’s on the outside pole behind only Ryan Newman, but only twice in the 19 runnings of the event has one of the racers on the front line taken the checkered flag at the Brickyard. Johnson’s only two weeks removed from a win at the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona, and considering his history on the track, high starting position and success this year, he must be the odds-on favorite to kiss the bricks for a second straight year.

Johnson and Jeff Gordon have each taken the Brickyard four times, but Gordon hasn’t won since 2004, while Johnson won last year and has taken four of the last seven. Tony Stewart also has a pair of wins and the highest average finish of any racer at Indy, while Gordon has finished in the top 10 in 15 of the 19 Sprint Cup races held at the Speedway.
