Daniel Hemric leads Southern Super Series standings heading into World Crown 300

Daniel Hemric leads the Southern Super Series championship standings by 16 over Bubba Pollard.

Matt Weaver

Jefferson, Ga. -- With five races remaining in the inaugural Southern Super Series season, the championship battle is down to three drivers in Daniel Hemric, Bubba Pollard and John Hunter Nemechek.

Pollard dominated the first half of the season, winning races at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville and Gresham Motorsports Park before suffering a string of bad luck in May races at Pensacola and Mobile that placed Hemric at the top of the standings.

Hemric strengthened his title chances by winning the June races at Pensacola and Mobile and currently leads the standings by 16 over Pollard and another 118 to Nemechek.

Mike Garvey and Hunter Robbins have outside chances, especially given the two canceled races at Mobile and Nashville but they have to roll off a series of wins starting tonight in the World Crown 300. The maximum number of points paid in a Southern Super Series race is 125.

“We’ve got to start thinking championship,” Pollard told SB Nation following World Crown time trials. “When you have a series like this, you have to run all the races to contend for the championship. We’ve now lost two races where we could have earned points at we have to make up for it -- getting every possible point or win we can get right now.”

The championship standings entering the event can be found below. Additional information on the Southern Super Series can be found on the SB Nation short track blog, here.
