Despite the higher than average volume of snowfall in the Northeast this winter, several cars from many different types of tracks, divisions, and series made it inside the Laurel Mall on Sunday evening for a week long show. Drivers and track management were on hand as well.
Northeast Pennsylvania Race Car Show: Photo Gallery and Review
SB Nation attended the inaugural NEPA Race Car Show being held at the Laurel Mall in Hazleton, Pennsylvania this week, which serves as a preview of various racing styles in the region with over 40 cars on display.

Evergreen Raceway Park, just outside of the mall location in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, opens under new management led by Harry Buchman. Buchman has been a racer himself and had his own Tour-type Modified on display along with several others representing the track, which has operated as Mountain Speedway in recent years. The new team is working hard at marketing the facility and will have several improvements to facilities such as bathrooms, kitchen, and a new scoring tower in hopes to reinvigorate interest among fans and competitors. The one-third mile will have it’s first weekly points event on Sunday, April 27.
Representing Mahoning Valley Speedway was track champion Earl Paules with his Modified and Late Model on display. Paules told SB Nation at the Atlantic City Indoor Races that he will be concentrating solely on racing at Mahoning, and will field a second Late Model for his wife Danielle. In past years Paules has traveled to events such as the New Smyrna World Series and the North South Shootout, but it appears that he will be foregoing these in 2014. Opening night for the track in Lehighton, Pennsylvania will be on Saturday, April 12.
In addition, Slingshots and SpeedSTRs were in attendance to promote an upcoming event at the quarter mile facility being billed as “Mid-Summer Thunder! Where Dirt Stars Meet the Asphalt.” This special event on Sunday, June 29 will feature both divisions, which were created by legendary chassis builder and driver Rich Tobias as an affordable alternative for drivers in the region to come up through the ranks.
Another area Late Model driver present was second-generation Fern Glen, Pennsylvania resident Travis Fisher. Fisher unveiled his car’s updated paint scheme and body, in which he plans to start off locally at Evergreen Raceway Park and then branch out to some bigger events in the region at tracks such as CNB Bank Raceway Park in Clearfield. Fisher was the 2010 Late Model champion at Shangri-La II Motor Speedway located west of Binghamton, New York.
A complete gallery from the event can be viewed above. The show continues through Saturday, February 15. On Saturday afternoon starting at 2:00, driver interviews will take place followed by an opportunity for fans to meet and get autographs from the pilots of the cars on display.
