NASCAR Fontana 2014 schedule: Weird Sprint Cup season continues with Auto Club 400

A confusing Sprint Cup season continues this weekend with the Auto Club 400 in Fontana. Will a fifth different driver win in as many weeks?

Heading into the Auto Club 400 at Fontana, Calif., the fifth race of the NASCAR season, there is little to be gleamed. There have been four different winners this season, and all of them have been somewhat inconsistent outside of their top finishes. The most consistent driver has been Jeff Gordon with four top-10 finishes, but he has led all of four laps. Go figure.

Carl Edwards won last week at Bristol, and finds himself atop Jordan Bianchi’s latest power rankings as a result. The win did not come without controversy, however. NASCAR vice president Robin Pemberton had to apologize after an official accidentally turned on the caution lights with two laps to go in the Food City 500. Edwards, who was in the lead at the time, was thankful that there was not a chaotic restart. Instead, heavy rain came in and froze the race where it was, with Edwards holding a sizable lead.

In the Nationwide Series race, the TreatMyClot.com 300, Kyle Busch will be going for his second consecutive and third overall win this season. If he, Matt Kenseth or Elliott Sadler are able to secure a win, the Joe Gibbs Racing team will have won 10 straight races at Auto Club Speedway.

Qualifying for both races will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1. The TreatMyClot.com 300 will be televised Saturday on ESPN, with pre-race coverage beginning at 4:30 p.m. ET. The Auto Club 400 can be seen on Fox, with pre-race coverage beginning at 2:30 p.m.
