NASCAR Texas 2015: Lineup, starting grid for AAA Texas 500

The eighth of 10 races in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup is upon us, with the AAA Texas 500 from Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on Sunday.

Brad Keselowski captured the pole position for Sunday’s race with a qualifying speed of 196.929 mph on Friday and is looking for his second victory of the 2015 season. The top four starting positions on Sunday at Texas are drivers among the eight still alive for the championship, including Kevin Harvick starting second, Kyle Busch third and Joey Logano fourth.

Jeff Gordon, who is retiring after the season and who won last week at Talladega, starts in 18th position on Sunday. But he’s not the lowest-starting driver among those still alive in The Chase. Martin Truex, Jr., who finished seventh last week at Talladega, starts in 23rd position on Sunday at Texas.

After next week at Phoenix, the eight drivers vying for the championship will be trimmed to four for the final race of the season at Homestead in Miami on Nov. 22.

But first things first. There is a race at Texas to be won, and usually that means contending with Jimmie Johnson, who won the Duck Commander 500 on April 11 at this racetrack, and has won each of the last three AAA Texas 500 races and four overall.

Johnson, who is not alive in The Chase, starts eighth on Sunday.

NBCSN will provide pre-race coverage Sunday starting at 1 p.m. ET, then switching over to NBC at 1:30 p.m., with race coverage beginning at 2 p.m. and the green flag at approximately 2:16 p.m. Rick Allen will call the race alongside analysts Steve Letarte and Jeff Burton, with pit reporters Dave Burns, Mike Massaro, Marty Snider, Nate Ryan and Kelli Stavast.
