Dillon enters Sunday eighth in points, with three top-10 finishes in 2016, including a fifth-place finish in Las Vegas on March 6. Dillon won the pole in Fontana on Friday with a qualifying speed of 188.482 mph, still looking for his first career victory.
“We’ve got fast cars this year and I’m proud of our guys, they just keep working hard,” Dillon said Friday. “Hopefully, we can turn this into something.”
Kevin Harvick, who won last week in Phoenix, will also start from the first row, in second position for Sunday’s race. He won in Fontana in 2011.
Defending Auto Club 400 champ Brad Keselowski, who enters Sunday ranked 11th in points, starts in 15th position in Fontana.
Fox will televise Sunday’s Auto Club 400 beginning at 3 p.m., with full race coverage starting at 3:30 p.m., with Mike Joy on play-by-play plus analysts Jeff Gordon, Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds.
