NASCAR Las Vegas 2016: Lineup, starting grid for Kobalt 400

Kurt Busch has pole position on Sunday afternoon at the 2016 Kobalt 400, with the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup season shifting to Las Vegas Motor Speedway to open the west coast swing.

Busch, a two-time winner in 2015, finished fourth last week in Atlanta and 10th at the Daytona 500 to open 2016. Las Vegas is Busch’s hometown track, though he is still seeking his first win at this event. He last raced in Las Vegas in 2014, finishing 26th. Busch’s last top-10 finish at the track was in 2011, when he finished ninth.

He won the pole with an average of 196.328 mph during qualifying on Friday.

“I was hoping to put on a show for the home crowd, get the pole. Now, we’ve got to go to work,” Busch said on Friday. “I hope we can get the car dialed in for long run speed for Sunday.”

Matt Kenseth, a three-time winner at Las Vegas, starts in third position on Sunday. He last won the Kobalt Tools 400 in 2013.

Fox will televise Sunday’s Kobalt 400 beginning at 3 p.m., with full race coverage starting at 3:30 p.m., with Mike Joy on play-by-play plus analysts Jeff Gordon, Darrell Waltrip and Larry McReynolds.
