NASCAR Martinsville 2016: Lineup, starting grid for STP 500

Joey Logano has a chance to make some real movement in the points standings at Martinsville on Sunday.

The NASCAR Sprint Cup series continues on Sunday, with the STP 500 at Martinsville Speedway. The race is set to begin at 1 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1, with the green flag dropping at around 1:13.

Joey Logano will start the race from the pole position, which is the third straight time he’s done so at Martinsville. He’ll be flanked by Kasey Kahne in the front row, with Brian Vickers and Paul Menard right behind them. Logano is still looking for his first win of the season, although he’s currently sixth in the Sprint Cup standings, well on pace to make the Chase for the Cup.

One of the more surprising results of qualifying is how many big names struggled on the short track, with Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jimmie Johnson, Kurt Busch and Carl Edwards all starting at 21st or below. Even the overall points leader, Kevin Harvick, is starting from the 19th position. With a lot of the Cup contenders starting low, this presents a prime opportunity for Logano to make up some ground in the points standings.
