NBA Draft Time, TV Schedule, Online Streaming: 2011 Edition On ESPN Thursday

Television coverage of the 2011 NBA Draft begins at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN3.com. The actual draft begins at 7:30 p.m., with the first pick expected to be announced at 7:35 p.m. Each team has five minutes to make their selection, beginning at the point when NBA commissioner David Stern announces the previous selection.

The first round is 30 picks deep, and the second round -- which is also aired on ESPN and ESPN3 -- should begin around 10 p.m. ET. Adam Silver, the league’s deputy commissioner and someone much better with foreign names than Stern, takes over for the second round.

ESPN’s coverage of the draft can be confusing because Stern almost never acknowledges trades until well after the fact, and ESPN’s crew is typically well behind the Internet -- including ESPN’s own web reporters like Chad Ford and Marc Stein -- in covering trades. That leads to situations where the analysts on the crew, like Jay Bilas and Fran Fraschilla, discuss how a prospect fits on the team that drafted him when most viewers know that player’s already been traded to another team.
