Howard’s Double-Double Leads Orlando To A 112-83 Season-Opening Victory Over Washington

Orlando, FL (Sports Network) - Dwight Howard finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds, leading the Orlando Magic to a dominating 112-83 victory over the Washington Wizards in the teams' season-opener.

The game marked the NBA debut of Wizards guard John Wall, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 draft. Wall finished with 14 points and nine assists, showing flashes of the open-court skill that he so often employed at Kentucky, but made only 6-of-19 field goals.

Orlando had control the entire game, finishing with a rebounding advantage of 53-25 and shooting 55.8 percent from the field, thanks to a number of field goals close to the basket.

Vince Carter added 18 points and five rebounds for the Magic, who are coming off a 59-win season and appearance in the Eastern Conference finals. Jameer Nelson ended with 16 points and six assists.

Offseason acquisition Kirk Hinrich had 12 points for Washington, which shot 37.2 percent and grabbed just three offensive rebounds. The Wizards were playing without guard Gilbert Arenas, who is out for the first two games of the season because of a strained ankle tendon.
