That’s right; Paul Millsap, a career 10.6 point scorer, destroyed the Miami Heat for 46 points last night. And if nothing else, it’s a reminder. If the Miami Heat are going to make a habit of turning average NBA big men into All-Stars, we need a name for these guys.
Paul Millsap Beats The Heat, Becomes The Latest Of The ‘Miami Miracles’
Call them the Miami Miracles: an All-Star team of guys the Heat have made look like All-Stars.
For instance, Emeka Okafor was 12-13 for 26 points and 13 rebounds against the Heat the other night. And... Either Emeka Okafor suddenly turned into Wilt Chamberlain, or that’s a reflection on the Heat. And same with Paul Millsap last night. He’s always been solid for Utah and was a dark horse All-Star candidate last year, but good God. Miami made him look like Bernard King.
Oh, and while we’re here, more than ever before, Chris Bosh looks like a dinosaur.
For the record: yes, Millsap deserves the lion’s share of credit for his lights-out performance. The Jazz had no business winning that game last night, but Millsap’s clutch threes down the stretch--as well as an insane tip-in to send things to OT--kept them within striking distance. And for Utah, the win is a step in the right direction, especially given how inconsistent they’ve been through the first few weeks of the 2010 year.
But can we talk about the Heat, and how this is going to be one of the funniest subplots of the season? How many big men will Chris Bosh and the Heat turn into superstars? Like, on Saturday November 20, will Mark Gasol and Zach Randolph combine for 60 and 30? Or two days later, will Roy Hibbert drop a double nickel on Joel Anthony?
As out-of-this-world as the Miami Heat may seem on paper, the ongoing showing by the Miami Miracles will be just as good. Who’s next to join the club?!
...Can J.J. Hickson drop 25 and 25?
...Will Taj Gibson hit ‘em for 38 points on 15-18 shooting?
...Spencer Hawes in Philadelphia? He’s got at least 30 in him against Bosh and Anthony.
...Is Ike Diogu still alive? Will he shock the world with a triple double on South Beach?
...Will Shareef Abdur-Rahim un-retire just to drop 50 on the Heat?
There’s no telling what we might see next from the Miami Miracles, the All-Star team full of guys that are only All-Stars when they play Miami. It’s exciting stuff. But you know the one guy who almost never looks like an All-Star in all these Miami games? Hint: He looks like a dinosaur.
