Earlier this week, Ron Artest was asked about his rumored interest in the NFL. His answer:
Could Ron Artest Play In The NFL?
...It’s not as important right now, but it’s something I want to do later, after I fulfill what I have to fulfill here as a Laker. There’s a lot of work to be done here ... But God-willing I stay in shape, and God-willing I get a tryout, they can say no, but ... we’ll see what happens.
I’m talking to T.O. and he’s going to help me this summer, to figure it out. We’ve been talking a little bit. Talking ‘bout a little safety or tight end, so we’re going to talk a little bit this summer, and see what’s possible.
The best part about this whole thing is the idea of Artest playing safety. When you think of NBA players playing football, it’s always as a tight end or wide receiver. But when you think Ron-Ron the Rottweiler playing football, doesn’t safety just seem way too perfect?
So go ahead and add this to your catalog of “Ron Artest is blissfully insane” stories, and smile as he cites Antonio Gates, Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, and Master P as his inspirations. He’s just the best. And for the record, if Ron Artest played a season in the NFL, he wouldn’t just become my favorite athlete of all time, but maybe even my favorite human being.
Could he actually do it?
“God willing, we’ll see what happens.”
Never before has a sentence more beautifully encapsulated an entire career.
