Michael Jordan Fired Entire Bobcats Coaching Staff, According To Reports

Larry Brown resigned from the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday. With him goes his entire staff, according to FanHouse’s Sam Amick. That leaves the 9-19 franchise is precarious position, and has lead to speculation about who Michael Jordan will hire to coach the team.

Amick also reports that the Bobcats expect to have Brown’s replacement in place by Thursday. Charlotte doesn’t play again until Monday, so the team has some time over the Christmas holiday to put a new staff together. In a release, Jordan said the search of Brown’s successor will begin immediately.

Losing an entire coaching staff midseason is very unorthodox, as teams typically fire the head coach and elevate an assistant to the interim chair. That the Bobcats have gone this route indicates that Jordan expects the team to make a playoff run, not out of the question in the Eastern Conference, where a sub-.500 record could still get a team the No. 8 seed.

The Bobcats were the No. 7 seed last season, making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Charlotte was swept by the Orlando Magic in the first round.

The only coach on Brown’s staff who had NBA head coaching experience was his brother, Herb Brown, who coached the Pistons for three seasons in the late 1970s.
