Larry Brown Resigns; Paul Silas, Patrick Ewing Emerge As Candidates For Bobcats Coach

Paul Silas and Patrick Ewing have emerged as two top candidates for the Charlotte Bobcats’ head coach position vacated by Larry Brown, according to Yahoo!‘s Adrian Wojnarowski. Former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson is also under consideration.

Brown resigned Wednesday as the Bobcats got off to an awful 9-19 start a year after making the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. Bobcats owner Michael Jordan also reportedly fired Brown’s entire coaching staff, leaving a void in succession to the head coach spot.

Silas last coached the Cleveland Cavaliers, leaving that franchise in 2005 as Dan Gilbert took over the team and prepared for a string of title runs with a young LeBron James. Before that, he was the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets, and he remains in the Charlotte-area to this day. In 2007, he interviewed for the head coaching job that Brown eventually won, in the process telling the Charlotte Observer that coaching the Bobcats was his “dream job.”

Ewing is currently as assistant coach under Stan Van Gundy with the Orlando Magic. Woodson was fired by the Hawks after the Magic run through Atlanta in the second round of last year’s playoffs.

Silas’ son Stephen is currently an assistant with the Golden State Warriors, where he has forged a special relationship with Monta Ellis.
