The new-look Orlando Magic made a major statement early in their Christmas Day game against the Boston Celtics. They scored the game’s first 13 points, running up and down the floor at will. But then, the Boston Celtics responded like the team they are.

The Celtics scored the game’s next 15 points, taking control of the game away from Orlando, and lead 20-19 after one quarter. Paul Pierce led the way with 11 points and five rebounds, getting two and-1 layups, two jumpers and a three-pointer at the end of the quarter for his points. The Celtics’ defense also stepped up after a rough start, holding the Magic to 33 percent shooting.
Hedo Turkoglu leads the Magic with eight points, looking far more comfortable than he’s looked in Toronto and Phoenix. Brandon Bass added five points, but Dwight Howard has yet to score in the game. Jameer Nelson and Gilbert Arenas are also both scoreless.
