Carmelo Anthony will not be a New Jersey Net, which means that for the time being he will remain a Denver Nugget, which means that for the time being the Nuggets will remain pretty darn good. The Nuggets knocked off the rival (rival?) Oklahoma City Thunder 112-107 on Wednesday, hours after 'Melo had been the talk of New York City (and Chicago, and Houston, and Dallas).
Thunder Vs. Nuggets: Carmelo Anthony Keeps On Winning In Denver
'Melo scored 35 points on 12-25 shooting; if George Karl remained frustrated with Anthony's commitment, it didn't show. OKC's offense did well to score on Denver -- the Thunder shot 48 percent and had just 10 turnovers. But the stops wouldn't come.
Russell Westbrook led the Thunder with 28 points and 10 assists. Of course, for Denver, trade talks continued (and will continue) to rule the day. After the game, 'Melo claimed that he still expects to be traded before the February deadline. To where? Who knows. In the meantime, the Nuggets are the No. 7 seed in the West, hovering in what appears to be a no man's land of competitiveness despite obvious intentions to rebuild. It's a weird time in Denver.
