It remains unclear what the NBA believed it was doing when it named Bucks guard Brandon Jennings a contestant in the 2011 NBA Slam Dunk contest during All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles in February. Jennings is currently recovering from a broken foot, and isn't expect to return until just weeks before All-Star Weekend. Teams are hesitant to allow players to compete in meaningless exhibition if there's any hint of injury; a player as important as Jennings figures to cause even more concern.
DeMar DeRozan Replaces Brandon Jennings In 2011 NBA Slam Dunk Contest
The NBA apparently agrees, as Raptors guard DeMar DeRozan will replace Jennings in the competition. DeRozan will compete against Blake Griffin, JaVale McGee and Serge Ibaka in the contest. Like Jennings, DeRozan is an L.A. native. Expecting either to have a home court advantage over the Clippers' Griffin, however, is ludicrous.
DeRozan finished second in the 2010 dunk contest, losing to three-time champ Nate Robinson. Here's a look at all of DeRozan's dunks from last year.
No word on whether Sonny Weems will make the trip to L.A.
