It’s Aaron Afflalo, of all people, leading the charge for the Denver Nuggets. His four three-pointers, including the final three points of the half, propelled the Nuggets to a 52-49 halftime lead. The Nuggets strategy of double-teaming Kobe Bryant nearly every time he touches the ball is working, with Bryant limited to just four points in the first half.
Nuggets Vs. Lakers: Aaron Afflalo Powers Denver To Halftime Lead; Kobe Bryant Having Quiet Night
Carmelo Anthony took a distributor role to end the half, driving the lane, drawing a crowd and dishing to a wide-open Afflalo for three. Pau Gasol missed his attempt with the shot clock winding down, then missed the follow at the buzzer heading into the half.
Three Denver players are in double-figures, paced by Afflalo. Carmelo Anthony has 11 points, on four of 13 shooting, and Chauncey Billups has 10. Nene leads the Nuggets with four rebounds and Anthony also has a team-high four assists.
With Denver doing a fine job keeping the ball out of Bryant’s hands, the Lakers have struggled to score. Gasol and Ron Artest each have nine points to lead the way, with Bryan only taking four shots and making two. Gasol also has a game-high nine rebounds. Lamar Odom added eight points off the bench.
At the half, the Nuggets hold a slim advantage over the Lakers, 52-49.
