The other night, Kenny Smith was talking about J.R. Smith on Inside the NBA, and he said what people always say when they talk about J.R. Smith. Something like, "If he'd spent a year or two in college, he could have been an All-Star every year."
J.R. Smith May Never Be An All-Star, But He’s An MVP In Our Hearts
And Kenny’s right, of course. If Smith had spent a year or two at UNC like he’d planned, all that athleticism could have been channeled into something really, really special. But then, if he’d gone to college, think of how much unintentional comedy that would have cost us. All the 30-footers at the beginning of the shot clock, our annual tradition of “J.R. Smith Looks More Mature This Year” stories, and of course, the most ridiculous play of all time.
Or something like this next .gif which we’ll go ahead and call “J.R. Smith Plays Peek-a-Boo.”
College basketball is awesome, but...
...Like paying attention in timeouts, maturity has always been vastly overrated. I love this game.
