What happens when you have a guy who has a reputation for flopping guard a player who has an even worse reputation for flopping? You get what happened to Manu Ginobili and Raja Bell in last night's game between the San Antonio Spurs and the Utah Jazz.
Manu Ginobili, Raja Bell Engage In Flopping Battle Of The Year
Bell, who admitted he likes to "emphasize a call that should be made" in Jack McCallum's landmark book "Seven Seconds Or Less" on the 2006 Phoenix Suns, was guarding Ginobili closely as the shot clock wound down. Ginobili, whose flopping reputation needs no introduction, needed to make a play, and decided to drive to his right to do it. Bell cut him off, then fell down to try to make it seem like he took a charge. In response, Ginobili also fell down and kicked his leg high into the sky to make it look like he was tripped.
In the end, Ginobili won, and a foul was called on Bell. The announcers had no idea, saying that Ginobili was clearly tripped on the play. The lesson is clear: don’t try to out-flop Manu Ginobili. You will lose.
