The Boston Celtics got a small measure of revenge over the Los Angeles Lakers for last year’s NBA Finals, taking a 109-96 win at the Staples Center. Kobe Bryant poured in 41 to Paul Pierce’s 32, and at one point Kevin Garnett found himself bleeding from the head.
Celtics Vs. Lakers Final Score: Kobe Bryant And Paul Pierce Battle, Boston Wins, 109-96
Rajon Rondo pitched 16 assists, Garnett grabbed 13 rebounds, and Ray Allen scored 21 for Boston, while nobody really stands out on the Lakers side of the box score. OK, fine, Lamar Odom scored 15 and Pau Gasol secured seven boards.
The Celtics shot 60.3 percent from the floor, compared to Los Angeles’ 44.4 percent. Boston outperformed L.A. on both sides of the floor, but kept it close for most of the game by turning the ball over more and being unable to get to the free throw line as often.
The 36-11 Celtics now get the Sacramento Kings, while the 33-15 Lakers draw the Houston Rockets.
