New York Knicks Run Spurs Out Of Town, Win 128-115

The New York Knicks knocked off the league's best team with a shocking 128-115 over the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden. Amar'e Stoudemire and Raymond Felton each had 28 points and Wilson Chandler poured in 31 for the home team. Tony Parker had 26 points and six assists, but the Spurs couldn't stop the Knicks at any point.

The Knicks’ defense has struggled this season, but New York hardly needed any defense with the way they were scoring. The Knicks shot an incredible 55 percent from the field; that’s the highest field goal percentage the Spurs have allowed all season. New York also committed just six turnovers, which allowed the team to take advantage of that hot shooting.

The game is a bit of a symbol for the current state of the Knicks and Spurs, stylistically speaking: these are both up-and-down offensive-minded teams. The Spurs are usually much better than this on defense, but the Knicks’ performance indicates that New York might have one of those rare teams where on some nights, the opponent’s defense just doesn’t matter. Chandler’s break-out is a huge boon for that, especially with gunner Danilo Gallinari on the shelf for up to three weeks with a sprained knee.

Posting And Toasting is, to say the least, excited.

The Knicks just went out and won that one. It wasn’t cute, nor did it require something fluky like stupid three-point shooting or an offensive collapse by the Spurs. They just outran and out-executed the best team in the NBA.

Pounding The Rock expresses exasperation via stream-of-consciousness game thread comments.

The Spurs, still a league-best 29-5, receive no quarter as they are due in Boston to play the Celtics on Wednesday. The Knicks (20-14) have a date with the Phoenix Suns on Friday. I hope Wilson Chandler wears his nice ascot.
