Dirk Nowitzki Can’t Pitch In The World Series Because Of The NBA Lockout, And No, There Is No Santa Claus
Man, the only thing better than seeing an awkward 7-foot German dude throw out the first pitch at Rangers game would be seeing him do it on National TV before a World Series game.
Right?
Well, too bad. The Rangers wanted Dirk Nowitzki to throw out the first pitch before one of their World Series home games, but anyone throwing the first pitch in a World Series game has to be approved by the league office first. And it sounds like the league office said no.
...hesitation stems from the idea that MLB executives want to stand behind their basketball counterparts and have notified the Rangers that they can’t bestow first-pitch honors on an NBA player.
So... Seriously. They’re really going to honor a lockout in a different sport.
If it’s true, this is like when the NFL arbitrarily decided to enforce the NCAA’s punishment of Terrelle Pryor in order to present a united front, only somehow even worse. Dirk’s watched every Rangers playoff game this year, he went to Game 6 of the ALCS, he’s beloved in Texas, and, oh yeah, did we mention that he’s a gregarious seven-foot German dude who would look hilarious on a pitcher’s mound?
Man, this sucks.
