President Barack Obama made an appearance Tuesday evening on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno where he talked about foreign policy, Occupy Wall Street and the NBA lockout among other things. While all of it was rather interesting as there aren’t many opportunities to watch the President of the United States on a late-night talk show, the President’s talk of the NBA negotiations stood out in the video of the interview.

Obama, a noted basketball enthusiast, has previously went on record saying the NBA lockout has him heartbroken. He reiterated that fact on Tuesday night while explaining the NBA should solve it’s lockout just like the NFL did.
Well look. If you look at the NFL, they were able to settle theirs and I think they understood. Players: “We’re making millions of dollars. Owners: “Some of us are worth billions of dollars.” We should be able to figure out how to split a nine-billion-dollar pot so that our fans, who are allowing us to make all of this money, can actually have a good season. And I think the owners and the basketball players need to think the same way.
The President went on to say he’s worried about missing the entire NBA season.
I’m concerned about that. They need to remind themselves that the reason they are so successful is because a whole bunch of folks out there love basketball. Basketball’s actually done well, but these kinds of lockouts ... a lot of times take it takes a long time to recover from.
Oh, and for more hot sports takes from the President, he doesn’t care who wins the World Series because his White Sox aren’t in it -- but he does want to see a good game.
