NBA Stars To Participate In Exhibition Fundraiser For Barack Obama’s Re-Election Campaign

A slew of NBA players and President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign are teaming up for a fundraising game on December 12 in Washington, D.C.

The NBA’s season of charity games will turn political on December 12 as players are organizing an exhibition that will serve as the centerpiece of a fundraising event for the re-election campaign of President Barack Obama.

The campaign's announcement of the game listed Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Carmelo Anthony and Ray Allen among those on rosters. In a twist from other games, some former players who now work for teams, such as Alonzo Mourning (a Miami Heat executive), Patrick Ewing (an Orlando Magic coach) and Doc Rivers (the Boston Celtics' head coach), are slated to participate. The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that the NBA has indeed cleared team employees to participate in this event.

What remains to be seen is whether the event goes on should, by some brand of miracle, the NBA lockout end before December 12. NBA commissioner David Stern is a big supporter of the Democratic Party, and while most owners are not, this is a different level of commitment than most charity games put together during the lockout.
