SEEKING: Ben Franklin-Inspired Animal Who Can Dunk, Fire A T-Shirt Cannon

Word broke today that the Philadelphia 76ers would replace the team's groan-worthy mascot, Hip Hop The Awkwardly Uncool Urban Rabbit. The Sixers made it official with an announcement that -- no lie -- explained where exactly Hip Hop is going. (To suburban Pennsylvania to raise a family, duh.)

Now, the search is on for the next Sixers mascot. And it is in this quest that we discover the goldmine that is new Sixers CEO Adam Aron.

The unstoppable Kate Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer got the mystical quotes from Aron.

“Ben Franklin is a human being and these mascots are usually more animals. I don’t think our pure mascot will be Ben Franklin walking around on the court. But if there’s a way to work in the founding fathers or the colonial era or even Ben Franklin, that would be a nice feather in the cap. But it is most likely going to be an animal of some kind.”

God bless you, Adam Aron. May you bring us a Ben Franklin-inspired animal mascot.

The late Jim Henson’s shop and the longtime Phillie Phanatic will take it from here. The sale of the Sixers to a young investment banker is officially the best thing to happen to the NBA since The Targuy Ngombo Incident.
