Glen Grunwald Likely To Remain Knicks’ Interim GM Through 2011-12 Season, Says Report

Glen Grunwald, who was named the interim general manager of the New York Knicks when Donnie Walsh unexpectedly resigned in June, will likely keep that title and with it control of the franchise's basketball operations, reports Alan Hahn of Newsday.

The Knicks broke their long playoff drought last season, finishing 42-40 after the offseason signing of Amar'e Stoudemire and a midseason blockbuster trade for Carmelo Anthony. Stoudemire and seemingly every guard on the roster struggled with injuries in the playoffs, though, and the Knicks were swept by the Boston Celtics in the first round.

Reports have suggested that the Knicks won't be terribly active this offseason anyway, with the franchise instead keeping its powder dry for runs at Chris Paul or Dwight Howard in July 2012. The Knicks have painfully few trade assets beyond Stoudemire and Anthony, with draft picks already accounted for and few young players of note.

The Knicks are tenatively scheduled to play in the league’s very first game of the season against the Celtics on Christmas Day.
