NBA Schedule: Christmas Day Games Increased, According To Report

The NBA schedule has not been released quite yet, but details have been leaked about its opening day schedule. The lockout wiped out all games prior to Dec. 25, better known as Christmas to most, but the league office has apparently decided to fill that day with a couple more games to make a huge opening-day slate.

The original Christmas day slate featured games between the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks, the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Chicago Bulls. It's unknown if those teams will still play their scheduled games, but the New York Times is reporting two additional games have been added to the Sunday schedule.

The N.B.A. will start its lockout-delayed season with five games on Christmas Day, said a person with knowledge of the schedule who was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

The first game will be on TNT, followed by two on ABC and two on ESPN. The league will announce the details of the five-game opening day on Friday. The first game will begin at noon Eastern, followed by tip-offs at 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

Basketball’s opening day should be a doozy.
