A Real Test Of LeBron James’ Popularity In Akron

Many considered LeBron James a Benedict Arnold when he fled Cleveland for Miami in July 2010. After The Decision, LeBron's camp made a point to distinguish between Cleveland and Akron, James' actual hometown about 45 minutes away. He has since returned to Akron for public appearances without incident, despite the fervor of distaste in him that exists in Cleveland.

That said, supporters of a school bond ballot measure are putting a whole lot of faith in Akron’s continued acceptance of LeBron.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports that LeBron has lent his voice to robocalls pushing the ballot measure. As the Beacon Journal notes, LeBron has lent financial and star power support to Akron Public Schools before. While we focus on the localized love of The King in his specific hometown versus the region at larger, that’s the important thing: star athletes using their blessing for good. Cheers to LeBron for giving back.
