Deron Williams will not sign a contract extension with the New Jersey Nets, but that’s only for financial reasons. He now says there’s a 90 percent chance he remains with the team in 2012.
Deron Williams Eligible For An Additional $30 Million By Declining Nets’ Contract Extension
NetsDaily has done the math. Under the new collective bargaining agreement -- which still hasn’t been set in stone -- the Nets can currently offer Williams a two-year extension on his existing contract, which would pay out $39 million over 2013-14 and 2014-15. He’s owed $31 million over 2011-12 and 2012-13, provided he would pick up the player option required to extend at this point.
If he instead waits for free agency, he can sign a $100 million contract for five seasons.
