Reggie Williams was signed by the Charlotte Bobcats to a two-year deal worth $5 million on Thursday, but the former Golden State Warriors swingman won't be in the team's opening-day lineup. Williams actually won't be on the team for at least six weeks, unfortunately, as he's set to have surgery on an injured knee.
Reggie Williams Injury Leaves Bobcats Without New Addition For 6-8 Weeks
The Charlotte Bobcats will be without free agent signee Reggie Williams for the early portion of the NBA season as he recovers from a knee injury.
Williams was announced as an official signee of the Bobcats on Thursday, but the press release also included an ominous note stuck in the middle: “Williams will have surgery in the coming days to repair a tear of the lateral meniscus in his left knee. He is expected to be sidelined for approximately 6-8 weeks.”
The shooting guard burst on to the NBA scene with the Warriors during the 2009-10 season after being called up from the NBA Development League's Sioux Falls Skyforce in January of that year. Williams excelled under Don Nelson that season, but was reigned in a bit when Keith Smart took control last season.
Once Williams is healthy, the swingman is expected to alleviate some of the Bobcats’ shooting woes as he’s shooting better than 40 percent from beyond the arc in his NBA career.
