It’s official: Grizzlies forward Darrell Arthur is injured and out for the season, as an MRI confirmed on Monday that he’s got a torn achilles tendon. The Memphis Commercial Appeal confirmed the news on Tuesday morning. Arthur injured himself playing defense against Zach Randolph in practice, and teammates initially thought it was an ankle sprain. Now they find out it’s much worse.

“It definitely hurts,” forward Zach Randolph said. “He’s come into his own. He’s been working so hard this summer with his game and for him to go down it really hurt. We feel for him. It’s just a tough situation.”
“It’s unfortunate. The timing is really bad. I feel really bad for him as a person. … I feel bad for our team,” [Grizzlies coach Lionel] Hollins said. “They’re very close to Darrell and they were really down (Sunday). But this is the business of basketball and we go on. We have to step up and play and do our jobs. We had to do it last year when Rudy (Gay) got hurt. We just have to go forward.”
The Grizzlies were already thin up front behind Marc Gasol and Zach Randolph, and now it looks like they’ll seek out reinforcements in the form of Charlotte Bobcats restricted free agent Dante Cunnigham.
