The New Jersey Nets' final home opener in Newark ended as so many games before it have: with an ugly loss for the good guys. The Atlanta Hawks beat the Nets 106-70 in an ugly affair; the Hawks won the first quarter 28-11 (yes, 11) and never looked back. New Jersey, whose offense is a legit mess without Brook Lopez, broke the 20-point barrier in just one quarter.

The Atlanta Hawks beat down the New Jersey Nets convincingly on Tuesday.
Deron Williams was no salve, scoring 10 points on 3-11 shooting with one assist and six turnovers in 25 minutes. The Nets had fallen behind to the Washington Wizards on Monday but came back to steal the game; no serious bid to take back this game could be found. Rookie MarShon Brooks led the Nets with 17 points on 5-12 shooting.
Atlanta got solid performances almost across the board. Marvin Williams did damage early and scored 14 with nine rebounds. Vladimir Radmanovic let it fly off the bench, and paced the Hawks with 17 on 5-9 shooting (3-5 on threes). Another reserve, Tracy McGrady, also had a strong Hawks debut with 12 points on 5-10 shooting.
