Amar’e Stoudemire Likely To Miss Time After Suffering Sprained Ankle

Amar’e Stoudemire is doubtful for the New York Knicks’ Monday game against the Toronto Raptors. He missed Saturday’s game after turning an ankle last week.

Amare Stoudemire will be a key player in the frontcourt for the New York Knicks this season as he provides the offense while Tyson Chandler gets it done on the defensive end. That game plan may be forced to the wayside over the next couple of games, however, as Stoudemire recovers from injury.

Stoudemire suffered a sprained ankle during a 92-78 loss to the Golden State Warriors earlier in the week and isn't sure about his status for this weekend's game against the Sacramento Kings. The All-Star big man talked to Newsday about his injured ankle on Thursday night.

“It’s wrapped up. I’ll get some treatment on it tomorrow, get another assessment on it tomorrow, see how it feels,” he said in the Staples Center locker room. “My situation is day-to-day.”

Stoudemire went down hard on the offensive end early in yet another weak offensive fourth quarter.

“I rolled down the lane, I forget who it was, but he put a shoulder into me. He hit me on the roll and I twisted my ankle,” said Stoudemire.

The Knicks play the Kings on New Year's Eve before returning home on Monday from their West Coast road swing to host the Toronto Raptors.
