I've long been convinced that Phil Jackson was one of the wisest men of our time in any profession. I realize that's a statement couched in hyperbole, but I don't think it's that ridiculous. As further proof of this, here's what he had to say about the New Orleans' Hornets sale to the NBA back in December, via Kevin Ding of the Orange County Register.
Chris Paul Trade Killed: Phil Jackson Called This A Year Ago
“Who’s going to pull the button on it?” Jackson asked. “When Chris [Paul] says he has to be traded, how’s that going to go? … Someone’s going to have to make a very nonjudgmental decision on that part that’s not going to irritate anyone else in the league.”
One year later, the NBA called off a trade that would have sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers. Phil Jackson, once again, is a step ahead of everyone.
