Avery Johnson Demoted To ‘Little Soviet Sergeant’

For time immemorial, Nets coach Avery Johnson has been known as The Little General, owing to his diminuitive stature (by NBA standards) and his militaristic barking. But Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has an updated comparison. From Al Iannazzone of the Bergen Record:

↵↵“The players know exactly what is expected of them,” Prokhorov said. “I know exactly what he is thinking, no hesitation. He reminds me of a sergeant I knew in the Soviet army. We didn’t mess with him, either.”

↵↵To go from a general to a sergeant is typically a demotion, but I think Johnson will take it.
