VIDEO: The NBA, Like Everything Else, Is Much Cooler In Slow Motion

Put sports in slow motion, and you can’t lose. Add a melodramatic background track, and it gets even better. As a matter of fact, as Dave Chappelle once proved, this works for just about anything. Like last week, I linked to this video, which was literally a slow motion rendition of jumping on the bed in an empty hotel room. And even that looked awesome.

So someone wants to put the dunk contest and the NBA All-Star Game in slow motion?

Um.... Yes, please. Here’s Demar Derozan from this weekend’s dunk contest:

The NBA’s beein doing this all season, so maybe I’m late to the party on this one. In any case, I can’t get enough of these videos, so after the jump, we’ll feature some of the better ones from this past weekend’s All-Star festivities.

Here’s Javale McGee’s double dunk from All-Star Saturday night. And yes, the unintentional hilarity of Javale McGee’s awkwardness in slow motion is every bit as good as you’d expect:

And here’s Blake Griffin dunking over a car:

And slo-mo highlights of Kobe’s MVP performance...

But by far my favorite is this next one. Slo-motion is great for dramatizing things, but it’s even better for mocking them. And this moment, as much as any other in this NBA season, was meant to be mocked.

Thanks to the NBA for putting all these together, and here’s to hoping the trend continues. It’s either cool or hilarious, but either way, Dave Chappelle’s lesson remains: Everything’s better in slow motion.
