Kevin Durant is doing all he can to keep the short-handed Oklahoma City Thunder close, but Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic have the upper-hand through three quarters, leading 80-70. After a flurry of activity just ahead of the trade deadline, the Thunder are struggling with a short bench, unable to use Kendrick Perkins, Nate Robinson or any of their other new acquisition. Without the depth, it’s been nearly impossible for the Thunder to stick with the Magic in Orlando.
Magic Vs. Thunder Score: Dwight Howard Too Much For Kevin Durant, Thunder After Three Quarters
Durant has a double-double already, registering 20 points and 12 rebounds through the first three frames. But Howard is dominating the paint for the Magic, scoring 30 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to pick up a double-double of his own.
The Magic jumped out to a 28-22 win after the first quarter, taking an 11-point lead into the half. Just nine players have seen action for the Thunder, a common problem around the trade deadline.
Durant is joined in double-figures Russell Westbrook, with 13 points, Daequan Cook (14) and James Harden (12). Dunk contest star Serge Ibaka has seven rebounds and Eric Maynor added a team-high five assists off the bench.
With Howard dominating, the rest of the Orlando squad has taken on a complimentary role. Jason Richardson is the only other player in double-figures thus far, adding 14 points. Jameer Nelson and Richardson have six rebounds apiece, as well. Hedo Turkoglu has a team-high six assists through three quarters.
