Brandon Roy Plans To Return To Action For Blazers Soon

Brandon Roy plans to return to action for the Portland Trail Blazers just a little more than three weeks after having surgery on both knees, according to the excellent Jason Quick of The Oregonian. Roy hasn't played since mid-December, and had arthroscopic surgery on both knees in January. The surgery cleared the way for the Blazers' ace guard to return late this season; a comeback before the All-Star break seems to be more than anyone expected.

Doctors cleared Roy for full-contact practice last Friday, Quick reports. Roy wants to get in two practices before taking the court in game action, which means his re-debut will come either Friday against the Toronto Raptors or Saturday against the Detroit Pistons.

Roy's quick comeback isn't unprecedented. Last spring, he had knee surgery and came back eight days later for Game 4 of the Blazers' first-round playoff series against the Phoenix Suns. He was, however, awful. This season the Blazers are 17-11 in games without Roy, and 10-13 when he plays. Roy's return could hasten a trade of veteran Blazers point guard Andre Miller. The pair rather infamously play poorly off of one another.
