You may remember the recent kerfuffle that arose when Stan Van Gundy compared David Stern to a Libyan dictator. It was just more proof that Stan deserves his own talk show whenever he's done with the Magic, but much to my dismay, Van Gundy was roundly criticized for the remarks. For what it's worth, as someone who once compared the NCAA to Al-Qaeda, I stand with Stan.
Didn’t David Stern Pretty Much Prove Stan Van Gundy’s Point?
↵Besides, as Dan Le Batard says today, Stern’s rebuttal may have proven Van Gundy’s point. Doesn’t this sound like a dictator talking?
↵↵“I would venture a guess that we’re not going to be hearing from [Van Gundy] for the rest of the season. I think when he stops and reads what he said, realizes what he did, he will say no more. I have whatever influence the bylaws and constitution give me, and they’re substantial, but I have a feeling some modicum of self-restraint will cause Stan, and the team for which he works, to rein in his aberrant behavior.”
↵↵A little bit, right? It’s okay, you can say yes. David Stern won’t give you any gag orders.
