Dwight Howard Receives 17th Technical Foul In Loss To Knicks

Dwight Howard has already served one suspension for earning too many technical fouls this season, and he's now one 'T' away from another. The Orlando Magic center was buzzed up for a tech -- his 17th of the season -- in overtime against the New York Knicks after being called for his sixth and final personal foul on a rebound attempt. The video is below; if your sound is off, note that Howard is rung up for the tech at the 12-second mark, after tossing the ball.

The foul call was completely questionable; the technical is understandable if only because tossing the ball -- even onto the court, underhand and not violently -- is a pretty demonstrative act. If they can see it in the cheap seats, you're probably getting rung up for it. Had it ended there, perhaps we'd see the league rescind the technical; Stan Van Gundy can talk about persecution from David Stern's office all he wants, but the NBA isn't in the business of benching its best players out of spite.

But Howard’s string of “bulls--ts” after the technical was worth a ‘T’ itself, and the center will definitely keep No. 17. One more and he’ll miss a game. There’s some merit in the idea that if the Magic find themselves in an uncontested game soon, Howard should earn that technical to avoid a playoff suspension.
