Miami Heat Become Latest Elite Team Cleveland Cavaliers Have Beaten

The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Miami Heat on Tuesday, drawing any number of half-hearted congratulations and plenty of “where was this in December?” questions. As elephants and Ken Jennings will remember, this is not the first time the Cavs have embarrassed an elite team.

The Cavaliers opened their 2010-11 season, in fact, with a win over the Boston Celtics, the defending Eastern Conference champions. It wasn't a close, buzzer-beatin' win either -- Cleveland won by eight as J.J. Hickson scored 21. In February, Cleveland earned a high-profile win over the Los Angeles Lakers, smacking the two-time defending champs 104-99. Kobe Bryant shot 8-24, and Ramon Sessions poured in 32.

So fret not, Heat: you're in good company. And to you, Chicago Bulls, No. 1 in the East? That April 8 game against the Cavaliers isn't quite the cakewalk it looks like. The real question here is what this means for the New York Knicks, who have lost to the Cavaliers three times this season. Are they, like, superelite? Too elite to function?
