Erick Dampier wanted to get a wallop of his own in, and shoved surprise starter Tony Parker on a lay-up attempt in third quarter. As you can see in the video below, Parker went flying out of bounds, and Dampier was booted from the game with a Flagrant-1.
Erick Dampier Fined $10,000 For Flagrant Shove On Tony Parker In Heat’s Blow-Out Loss
On Saturday, the league added to Dampier’s punishment by assessing a $10,000 fine. The NBA has cracked down hard on the ol’ two-hand shove when players are in mid-air, so while Parker’s fall looks worse than Dampier’s initial shove did, Damp and the Heat had to know immediately league officials would agree with refs as to the severity.
The Spurs took particularly exception to Dampier’s fall because San Antonio had a huge lead and because Parker returned early from an injury expected to keep him out up to a month. Parker missed just two games before returning Friday against the Heat, who have now lost three straight games.
