Danny Granger On Derrick Rose: ‘Like A Crazy Stalker Ex-Girlfriend’

Derrick Rose was really, really good in Game 1 against the Pacers today: the Bulls' prohibitive NBA MVP favorite put up 39 points, six assists, and six rebounds in a 104-99 win. Good enough, apparently, for Danny Granger to compare Rose's resilience to a familiar metaphor for it.

Well, Derrick Rose, on the other team, is like a crazy stalker ex-girlfriend. You know? Every time you tell her you don’t want to talk to her, she show up at your door again. So, yes, that is apt and descriptive — Rose won’t let you get away! — but it also unfortunately trivializes the idea that a “crazy stalker ex-girlfriend” could exist and be committing the crime of stalking. (And the idea that a “crazy stalker ex-girlfriend” is a laughing matter, because “HA, HA, those crazy ladies!” is kind of off-putting, too; we don’t typically laugh at male stalkers, right?)

Granger’s remark isn’t quite on par with Kobe Bryant’s slur from earlier this week, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see some of the Internet’s many fine feminist blogs hold Granger accountable for his words.
