The NBA announced on Monday that Portland Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan has been fined $35,000 for “public comments about the officiating following Portland’s game 1 loss at Dallas on April 16.”

McMillan’s major issue was why there was such a large free throw disparity in Dallas’ favor. The Mavericks shot 29 free throws, compared to 13 for the Trail Blazers. Dallas also had a 19-2 edge in free throws during the fourth quarter. That was the difference in the Mavericks’ 89-81 win.
Despite the inevitability of the fine being handed down, McMillian said Tuesday that he was surprised.
