Brandon Roy Is Unhappy With The Blazers, And So Is Everyone Else
It's hard to watch. Five years ago, Brandon Roy was the rookie of the year. Two years ago, he was one of the best guards in the NBA, and the face of the Trail Blazers franchise. Today, he's pretty much an afterthought, and he's not happy about it.
“I always try to find positives out of situations, but this is a tough one to find something,” Roy told Yahoo! Sports Tuesday night.
And he’s right. Some things just suck.
As Roy continued, “I’m not going to lie: It’s hard. My pride is a little scarred.”
It’s hard for the rest of us, too. Roy’s still making a ton of money no matter what happens, but when you look at his face and listen to his quotes, it’s hard not to sympathize. In sports, It’s painful enough watching a veteran come to terms with his own limitations, but with a player that’s 26 years-old, it’s a thousand times worse.
And for all this to happen in Portland compounds it even further. Didn't we already watch this movie play out with Greg Oden? Now, Brandon Roy's universe has flipped, too. "I used to always say to Greg, ‘You didn’t go out there and get hurt on purpose,’ " Roy said. "I’m giving myself the same advice now."
God. I think Brandon Roy just stabbed us all through the heart.
Read the entire article for more, but be warned--the closer you look, the harder it is to watch. And as far Brandon Roy’s current situation’s concerned, he’s not alone in his frustration with how this has played out. On that one, nobody’s more unhappy than everybody.
