Los Angeles Lakers' rookie forward Derrick Caracter was arrested Sunday morning in a New Orleans pancake house on charges on battery, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. According to police, Caracter -- who has not played one second in the Lakers' NBA Playoffs series against the Hornets -- was drunk and grabbed, pulled and hit a pregnant waitress at a French Quarter restaurant near the Lakers' hotel.
Lakers’ Derrick Caracter Arrested For Alleged Battery Of Pregnant Waitress
Caracter, a highly-touted recruit seemingly 200 years ago, flamed out at Louisville under Rick Pitino and landed at UTEP, where had a great season last year. But concerns about his attitude, work ethic and nose for trouble sunk him to the second round in 2010 NBA Draft. The Lakers up Caracter and Devin Ebanks, another former top-tier prospect who ran into trouble in college.
Caracter saw just 215 minutes of court time with the Lakers this season, and spent some time with the NBA D-League's Bakersfield Jam. He's behind Pau Gasol, Andrew Bynum, Lamar Odom, Ron Artest, Matt Barnes, Theo Ratliff and Joe Smith, and probably Steve Blake and Shannon Brown, in the Lakers' power forward depth chart.
The Times-Picayune did not report whether any of Caracter’s teammates were also drunk at the pancake house with the rookie. If they were and did not punch Caracter in the mouth when he allegedly harassed the pregnant waitress, they are objectively bad humans.
