Kobe Bryant made news before his Los Angeles Lakers won Game 5 over the New Orleans Hornets on Tuesday by refusing to undergo an MRI requested by team training staff. Some figured he just didn't want anyone to know how serious it was, others assumed it was because he knew it wasn't serious at all. We got our answer on a couple of Young Kobe dunks during the game. What “it” is is another coup for Kobe the media mastermind, a man who never passes up an opportunity to make himself look like the toughest hombre in the NBA, a man who rarely misses a chance to communicate to the masses that yes, he is hurt, and no, he won’t sit, and yes, those other sissies who do sit with non-debilitating injuries are, well, sissies. He’s a Coors Light ad come to life, only narrated by Howie Long and with more pointing and laughing.
At this point, we should just assume Kobe is always in full health, and every injury is a PR ruse.
