On Tuesday night, golfer Paul Azinger tweeted his disapproval of LeBron James’ demeanor and essentially called him a thug. It’s a word that carries racial connotations, especially as applied to athletes. This seems to have dawned on Mr. Azinger over the last 12 hours ago, as he has deleted the “thug” tweet and tweeted this:
Paul Azinger Deletes ‘Thug’ Tweet, Asks Us Not To ‘Interpret Race Into It’ [Sic]
Compring ths generation taunting to previous genrtion trsh tlk generated good debate. If u intrprted race into it, u shld exmine ur own heart
Everyone is a racist (no, really, everyone is a racist), and as such, we have these sorts of conversations pretty often. Too often, they turn into exercises in which we run the offending party through the wringer as he/she runs a clumsy sort of damage control. That’s unproductive and unbecoming, so instead, let’s mock a completely nonsensical tweet from an Azinger fan that he retweeted:
RT @Rich52370 @PaulAzinger the difference between jordan and james... Jordan had class, james shows his ass!
A zinger for Azinger! ZING! What? I’m terribly confused.
